Cover letter to Board of Regents on MS and HS Survey
The New York State Technology Education Association (NYSTEA) has found, as a result of its collected data through the administration of four separate middle school student surveys, that Technology Education is valued strongly in a multitude of categories. The survey results affirms our belief that Technology Education plays a critical role with building technological literacy, problem-solving skills, career awareness, teaming skills, inventiveness, creativity, innovation and STEM literacy among its students.

MANDATE RELIEF: Our Position
NYSTEEA's Official Position Regarding Mandate Relief and Commissioner's Regulation 100.4, C, 1.
As a close-knit, passionate community of educators, we find the continued flow of recent indicators threatening both technology education's existence and the continuation of a middle school requirement to be deficient of any logic based upon decades of education research and 21st century societal and economic needs. Straight from a number of school district administrators, professional organization officials and other credible sources, it seems that there might be yet another forthcoming recommendation to the Board of Regents to eliminate technology education as an included element of all middle school students' education. The rationale in opposition to such a move is extensive and far exceeds any reasoning for supporting such an unfortunate decision. Because of this, NYSTEEA is opposed to the removal of the one unit of study program requirement for technology education to be delivered to all students by the time they complete 8th grade (CR 100.4, C, 1, v). Numerous arguments and much evidence in support of technology education have been repeatedly presented and agreed with by Board of Regents members and other education policy makers. The question is, "Why is technology education's value continually and repeatedly challenged?"
CALL to ACTION
NYSTEEA is mobilizing to represent you during the upcoming school budget development process and we need your help. Please contact a member of the Executive Board.
Membership message from the executive board
Technology Education is at a turning point in this current educational evolution. Sales people are told to "ask for the order" in the sales process. None of the executive board members are sales people, but we need to become sales people for NYSTEEA. On behalf of the entire current membership and the executive board, please seriously consider joining all of your professional technology and CTE related associations, from the local to the ITEEA, every one of them needs your support.
