February 14th President's Corner--Conference Registration Discount
NYSTEEA recognizes the numerous challenges we all face in the current economic environment. To offset some of the pain, we have decided to significantly lower the registration cost of this year’s conference. For those who register before March 31st, the cost will drop from $160 down to $85. For those registering after this date the price will be $105. If you are staying at the University Sheraton, several meals are included in your lodging package. For those commuting, the commuter meal form provides several dining options.
Presidents Corner
February's President's Corner
Many of you have become concerned over the past days and weeks regarding a wave of significant, sometimes conflicting, and wildly varying information about the future of our discipline. The first thing that I wish to communicate is my personal dislike for the immediacy of information dissemination without regard for accuracy or judicious contemplation. This creates chaos for all of us. Having said this, we do have reason to be concerned . . . now and always.
January's President's Corner
NOTE TO READERS: Over the past couple of months, this column has begged the question of how technology education can successfully become a critical element of educational reform and become a staple of education in schools. Section two becan to consider some initial evidence possibly to be used. In this last section, I present two additional endeavors that might be valuable toward success in our quest.
December's President's Corner
NOTE TO READERS: Last Month, this column detailed some history and the challenges before us at technology education endeavors to strengthen its position as a critical element of educational reform and become a staple of education in schools. In part two, I present a number of general and specific items that can be pointed to as valid successes and reasons for support of technology education as an important part of education reform.
November's President's Corner
NOTE TO READERS: This is the first of a three-part article to be included here over the coming months. I urge you to consider the contents of each carefully.
For almost the past six months, not a week has gone by without a phone call from fellow educators, engineers, university colleagues, and even my mother regarding the potential big prize, “Race to the Top.†After 30 plus years in the technology education business, I still get a little excited about such things, yet at small fraction of previous levels.
September's President's Corner
Hello and welcome back to the 2010-2011 school year. My name is Clark Greene and I am current President of NYSTEA. My goal is to serve all Technology Education teachers and have NYSTEA, as your association, earn your trust as evidenced by your becoming a member.
A first step toward this goal is a project called “Setting Sailâ€, a membership initiative to achieve 50% of all technology teachers in New State as members of NYSTEA. NYSTEA is committed to serving and representing all technology education teachers in New York. Please consider getting involved as a volunteer, committee member, local officer or simply a registered member. If Technology Education is to be a part of education’s future in New York, we all need to join today! There will be further information regarding “Setting Sail†on the NYSTEA web site in the near future. I urge you to visit the web site soon.
June President's Corner
Dear NYSTEA Members,
Well, June is here and the end of the school year is just a few days away. While we finish up final exams, do our grades for the last time this year and pack up our rooms, most teachers are thinking about summer vacation. For me, I’m thinking about the “Honey-Do-List†my wife Nancy has for me, the driver education course I am taking, and STEM Education.
Speaking of STEM Education, this August 8 – 11, 2010, the NYS STEM Education Collaborative, a group spearheaded by NYSTEA, will be holding its inaugural Summer Institute at SUNY College at Oswego. Please go to the NYS STEM Ed. Collaborative link or http://www.nysstemeducation.org/ to check thing out. I believe it is important for as many of us to go as possible. There are approximately 90 presenters that will be speaking on a variety of STEM topics.
